A Tale of Wishers: Introduction

Introduction
Here, as promised, is the rewritten tale of Snow White.
The idea for this tale came to me while I was in the car on the way back from Disneyland. Having seen the musical in the Fantasyland Theatre, I’d gotten to thinking: what if Snow White wasn’t a royal?
The idea developed from there. In the development of the story, I made sure I had elements not only of the well-known Disney version of the tale, but also of the original, slightly more grisly Brothers Grimm tale, with a few of my favorite plot twists added in to make it more exciting. Also, I guess it was a proof to my good friend Hillary that I can write romance, but I wanted to avoid nasty sentimentality. These characters were too powerful on their own for that.
In the end, I was very pleased with the final product. I do not promise the Grimm’s gruesomeness or Disney’s charm, but what I can promise is meaning. This is a tale of kings and queens actually ruling their countries for a change, and how a moment’s conversation can change a life.
As promised, I dedicate this story to my friend Eddie Pitcher as thanks for so generously buying an enormously large amount of tickets to a fundraising dinner this last fall. This story belongs to him, as he helped inspire it, but also to all my friends. To Hillary, for teaching me how to write romance and for patiently putting up with me dragging her to two showings of the Snow White Musical to get my research right. To Caroline, for giving me an excuse to be in Disneyland in the first place. To my family, for putting up with me constantly talking about a story they haven’t been able to read yet.
So here I give you A Tale of Wishers.
